FAQs

When is the speaker proposal deadline for the next event?
Typically, we ask speakers to submit a proposal for a specific event 7 months prior to that event. For example-The deadline for the IAPP Privacy Academy held in October would be April. The deadline for the IAPP Summit, held in March, would be October. All proposals are kept on file for one year and may be considered for other IAPP programs including Knowledgenet and audio conferences.

Who decides the speaker line up?
The Conference Program Committee is made up of IAPP Board Members, Privacy Experts and IAPP management. Our conference content is carefully designed by this team to ensure the focus is on what privacy professionals need to know to navigate the gauntlet of existing laws and standards and to successfully plan and implement privacy programs.

What criteria do you use to decide on speakers?
Analyses of proposals are based on speaker credentials, topic relevance, topic interest and program fit. You increase your chances of being selected by being a member of the IAPP. If you have spoken in the past we heavily consider prior attendee evaluations, promptness in meeting speaker deadlines, attendance and commitment. Vendors/consultants who are regularly noted as "selling" to attendees will not be invited to return.

Will the proposal I submit be altered?
In some instances, we will pair you with other individuals who have submitted similar proposals. We will also limit the number of sessions that speakers may participate in. So for example, if several proposals list the same presenter we may suggest that a new speaker is added instead. In some cases we may select your proposal but ask that you adapt your content slightly to agree with conference themes for that particular show, or to differentiate the presentation enough from other sessions already planned.

How will I know if I am selected?
Should suitable speaking engagements arise, you will be contacted directly. We make every effort to finish programming 3 months prior to the event.

I haven't heard from you yet?
While we appreciate your effort to contact us, the volume of request make it impossible to respond to every proposal in detail. We are happy to take e-mails or phone inquiries, but we do ask that other promotional materials not be sent unless requested.

What do I get out of speaking at an IAPP event?
Most of our speakers are active members in the privacy community. The biggest benefits in presenting at our conferences are to share your experiences with your peers, and to interact with the most influential experts from vendors, analysts, consultants and other privacy professionals implementing programs. We promote our speakers' and their backgrounds on our website, the conference brochure and sometimes in press releases. Speakers receive a complimentary full conference pass.

Please note: We do not provide speaker honorariums or reimburse for expenses. Nor do we accept sales pitches or marketing presentations.
